Dragging myself to my feet I look up and see it,
A shimmering light, almost angelic, calling me closer,
Walking on sand so black and burnt,
Like the remains of a funeral pyre,
Ravenous beasts tear at each other as Hellhounds devour Chimeras,
But I keep moving, heading for the glowing presence (up ahead).
As I get closer and closer the light gets brighter and brighter,
Until a beautiful face appears in shining splendour,
She holds out a chalice and speaks,
“I’m am Lethe, Guardian of The Waters of Forgetfulness”,
“Drink and be free of the pain of life, enter Asphodel and never look back”,
“Forget your waking self and join your brethren in oblivion”.
I feel ashamed to look upon her face as I speak,
“My lovely Lady of Lethe, I thank you for your offer”,
She smiles and hands me her chalice, in it souls swirl in spirals of despair,
“I cannot accept it, I have lived an empty life of disease”,
“Forgive me please, this is not a fitting end for me”.
With that she disappears, her light fades and her warmth evaporates,
Leaving me alone and cold once again in this dark and gloomy place,
The time has come to move on and face my final judgement,
Once again I wonder on black beaches,
Only one way left to go, it’s time to find The Diamond Gate.

Californian quartet defining themselves as Sci-Fi black metal, maybe due to cosmic and interstellar topics, sounding like blackened death metal too ("The Maw"). It's a well-balanced melodic black metal album, with some fast-paced tracks and nice rhythmic transitions reminding me of Swiss band Celtic Frost (e.g. Terminal Odyssey). In other words not overly dominated by drum speed and also not sounding as extreme or as raw as some BM can be. sachavonkarl74
