Lost in a maelstrom of misery,
Life takes from me endlessly.
Leaving me broken and empty,
Friends turn their backs on me,
They even become enemies,
Or just plain dead to me.
Stepping back I take a look at myself,
From the outside, what do I see?
Hollow shell of the man I used to be.
Torn apart and seething,
Waiting and bleeding,
Broken and screaming.
The Reaper is calling,
I feel myself falling,
Leaving loved ones in mourning,
Drowning in sorrow,
As I hang from the gallows.
A hypocrite hiding behind a polished smile,
A virus consuming life from inside out,
In isolation I wait for a sign that never comes.
Venom rushes through my veins,
As I'm consumed by all I hate,
Now it's time I accept my fate.
Unable to fight, bound by inaction,
My spirit leaves this hateful world,
No longer a useless burden.
From my dead and rotting corpse,
New life shall spring and grow,
Insects feed on the secrets buried in my bones.
Chorus of cicadas, my only eulogy,
My existence was lifeless and empty,
Now it's too late for apologies.
My soul cries out as I fall,
Deeper and deeper into hell
Bidding my mortal life farewell.
Wandering alone in a dying grove,
Waiting for judgement from below ,
Or forgiveness from above,
What if I just fall down and die?
So this broken forest may have life.
May my soul escape and be free,
Like a feather on a summer breeze,
And may the pain of life just cease.
As the noose tightens,
My shell hangs lifeless,
But I keep falling into the darkness.
As my end draws near,
Nature's call I hear,
And I am released from all my fear.

Californian quartet defining themselves as Sci-Fi black metal, maybe due to cosmic and interstellar topics, sounding like blackened death metal too ("The Maw"). It's a well-balanced melodic black metal album, with some fast-paced tracks and nice rhythmic transitions reminding me of Swiss band Celtic Frost (e.g. Terminal Odyssey). In other words not overly dominated by drum speed and also not sounding as extreme or as raw as some BM can be. sachavonkarl74
