The silent hooded Boatman stares ahead,
With pale white fingers and blackened nails like claws upon his oar,
With his pitch-black cloak rippling like a restless ocean,
Onward to the river crossing where we meet The Styx,
At the bottom of a waterfall so loud it’s deafening,
Without a single word once more we float over the edge.
Landing without even a ripple in the writhing fiery River Styx,
Burning, twisting, tormenting every fibre of my being,
Broken dreams float like bloated corpses on a festering river of blood,
Every page of the history of the dead now seared into my mind.
I look up from the depths and see my own worst memory,
My beloved wife dies again before me,
Gasping for breath as her blood runs down my hands,
As the only two loves of my life sink beneath the waves,
The fire inside me dies and leaves me broken once again,
Forsaken to this hellish nightmare.
The faces of those I've lost flash before my eyes
And I realise, many lives end unfulfilled and empty,
I turn one last time to my guide,
And he leaves me on the river bank to contemplate my life.

Californian quartet defining themselves as Sci-Fi black metal, maybe due to cosmic and interstellar topics, sounding like blackened death metal too ("The Maw"). It's a well-balanced melodic black metal album, with some fast-paced tracks and nice rhythmic transitions reminding me of Swiss band Celtic Frost (e.g. Terminal Odyssey). In other words not overly dominated by drum speed and also not sounding as extreme or as raw as some BM can be. sachavonkarl74
